New York City

There are very few cities that have the same amount of emotion attached to them as New York City does. What do you think of when you think about New York City? Excitement, entertainment, world class, shopping, food, business, stock exchange, Donald Trump, handbags, Sex and The City, shoes, dreams, possibility, difference, bohemian, chic, black, spring, Central Park, hot dogs, New York Pizza, Cosmopolitans, Manhattans, Martini’s…. The list really does go on.

New York, New York, the city that was so nice they had to name it twice, is the Capital city of New York State. Contrast to common opinion there are actually other cities in New York State like The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. New York City is however the most populated area of New York and the most densely populated area of the USA. Over eight million people live New York, which is incidentally only 322 square miles. 1.6 million of those people live in Manhattan. Manhattan is less than 25 square miles, which means for every square miles there are over 60 thousand people.

New York City is made up of five boroughs, The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island, each of these boroughs has their own distinct personality. The Bronx is the home of the Yankee’s as it houses the Yankee Stadium. The Bronx is also the home of shopping outlets, music movements, Off-Off Broadway, and is fast becoming the place to find something off beat. Brooklyn houses two and a half million of New York residents, those residents come a whole range of cultural backgrounds. Because of the rich diversity in Brooklyn, the unique musical, fashion and architectural can rival the excitement of New York. Manhattan is the heart of New York and is often referred to as New York City and is what many people consider the centre of the world. Queens is a highly diverse borough with many residents living in city streets, suburban centres and country like areas. There is also a large amount of culture identity differences, like Italian, Irish, Greek, Polish and so on. Staten Island, the fifth borough is also filled with a range of different living situations from suburban to country estates. Residents of Staten Island have a free Ferry to Manhattan.
